Assessing Performance
Overview
A training course for trainers of adult learners which aims to introduce participants to the practice of standards-based assessment. It is particularly suited to trainers who are assessing against NZQA unit standards or NZQA approved courses.
How skilled are you when it comes to designing good assessments and carrying them out?
The course is itself based on Framework unit standards and provides 14 credits towards the 40 credit National Certificate in Adult Education & Training (Level 4). It can be delivered over two full training days or in a format that best suits your organisation and your staff.

The unit standards covered are:
- 11552: Design assessments (Level 5 Credits 8)
- 11281: Prepare candidates for assessment (Level 4 Credits 3)
- 4098: Use standards to assess performance (Level 4 Credits 6)
- 18203: Verify evidence for assessment (Level 4 credits 5)
The course will enable participants to:
- Design good assessment tasks
- Prepare for and carry out fair, valid assessments
- Make sound assessment decisions based on the evidence collected
- Give feedback on trainee performance
The course content includes the design and planning of assessments, preparing trainees for assessment, verifying evidence, conducting assessments and the reporting of results to trainees and external agencies.
A mix of interactive and individualised learning activities will be used on the course with an assessment assignment to be completed following the course.
Course Fees
For public courses: $590 per participant, $550 special early-bird rate if you pay more than two weeks prior to start date.
For in-house courses: we will negotiate an all-up fee with you, depending on the delivery format you choose and trainee numbers. We offer discounted rates for more than 8 trainees.
